Elopement: a guide in 5 posts. Part Four

The elopement is the perfect opportunity to do things your way, and this also applies to the wedding traditions!

Choose those customs you love, and leave the ones you don't like.

1. White dress

Doesn't the dress make the lady? Perhaps, but the white dress makes definitely a bride! Whether is princely or bohemian, the white gown is perhaps, among all the traditions that crowd the wedding day, the most essential.

2. Wedding cake

Even if the wedding  party is  reduced to a minimum, don't give up the wedding cake, a symbol of abundance and prosperity. Obviously, if that's what you want. Evaluate the idea of a mini-cake just for you two, or alternatively some bite-size desserts after the ceremony: the traditional Neapolitan pastry is made of that!

3. First look

Many couples decide to be together also during the preparation, before the ceremony, but in this way they miss all the emotion related to a great particular moment: the first look. What is more exciting than seeing your partner for the first time in her wedding dress/tuxedo?

4. Wedding vows

Customize your ceremony reading a few words written for the occasion by you or by your witness. Give space to your emotions and your thoughts. In addition to being something very romantic - and sometimes really fun - it is a gesture that strengthens your relationship and makes those present feel involved. And if you haven't idea about what to write, copy a lovely sentences from your favorite book / song / movie!

5. Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue

This is one of those traditions that never sets! Traditionally, your something old should reflect a connection with the past, like a family heirloom or a childhood photo that you can take with you on the day of your elopement. Your something new symbolizes optimism for the future and can be anything: your wedding dress or a new hairstyle. For something borrowed, ask to your grandparents or parents: they will be happy to give you something special, an emblem of their affection for you. And finally, be creative with something blue!
